iSkysoft Toolbox - iOS Data Recovery User Guide
There are 3 modes to recover lost or deleted data on iPhone, iPad and iPod touch via iSkysoft iOS Data Recovery. Check the details for each mode:
- Part 1. Recover Data from iOS Device Directly
- Part 2. Recover Data from iTunes Backup
- Part 3. Recover Data from iCloud Backup
Part 1. Recover Data from iPhone/iPad/iPod touch Directly
Please note that to increase the chances of getting your deleted or lost data back from iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch, please stop using the device instantly after you realize the data is lost. Any operation after the data loss can overwrite the deleted or lost data, making it lost permanently.
Step 1. Prep work: Install the latest iTunes on your computer
Before running iSkysoft Toolbox, you’re supposed to have installed the latest version of iTunes on your computer. If not, please do it.
Next, disable the iTunes automatic sync: launch iTunes and find the “Preferences” menu > click the “Devices” tab > check the option “Prevent iPods, iPhones, and iPads from syncing automatically”.
Last, quit iTunes on your Windows PC or Mac.
Step 2. Connect the iOS Device with Computer
Download and install iSkysoft Toolbox iOS on your Mac or Windows PC. Use the USB digital cable to connect your iOS device with your computer. Please make sure you have tapped the “Trust this Computer” on the iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. When the device connected successfully, click “Data Recovery” in the left side of the window. By default, you’ll navigate to the “Recover from iOS Device” window.
Step 3. Scan iPhone/iPad/iPod touch for Lost Data
In the main window of “Recover from iOS Device”, you can see 2 options: Deleted Data from the Device and Existing Data on the Device. It’s your choice to choose which one to scan, or both. And you can even check the file types in any of the 2 options to scan according to your needs.
Click“Start Scan”, letting the software scan for the files you’re looking for. It might take a few minutes, depending on the amount of data on your iOS device. During the scanning process, if you see that the data you're looking for is there, then click "Pause" stop the process.
Step 4. Preview the Scanned Data
Once the scan process is completed, result is generated and displayed. You can choose the file type in the left side, then preview the found data. If you have a lot of data, I suggest you try the search feature to search for the data you need by typing in the name of the file.
Note: if you have let the software scan both existing and deleted data on your iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, you can also in the scan result window refine the result by using the filter: Only show the deleted, only show the exiting.
Step 5. Recover Data from Your iPhone/iPad/iPod touch
After you find the data you want to recover, tick the checkbox in front of the box to select them. Next, click “Restore” at the bottom of the current window. By default, the data you select will be saved to your computer. However, as for text messages, iMesages, contacts and notes, there will be options as: Export to Computer and Restore to Device for you. Choose the right option for you.
Part 2. Recover Data from iTunes Backup
Step 1. Choose “Recover from iTunes Backup file”
If you had backed up your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch to iTunes before you lost the data, then you can try to recover files from iTunes backup file. Launch iSkysoft Toolbox – iOS Data Recovery, click “Recover from iTunes Backup file”.
Step 2. Select iTunes Backup File to Scan
By default, all the iTunes backup files will be automatically detected and displayed in the chart. Choose the one that contains the data you need and click “Start Scan”, letting the software extract the iTunes backup file for you.
Step 3. Preview and Recover Data from iTunes Backup File
In the result page, the iTunes backup file is extracted and displayed in categories. Next, you can click the corresponding data to preview it before going forward. After then, select the ones you need and click “Export to Mac”. By default, the data will be saved to your computer again. If you’re recovering contacts, text messages and notes, you can connect your iOS device with your computer via a USB cable beforehand, then restore them to your device again.
Part 3. Recover Data from iCloud Backup
Step 1. Choose “Recover from iCloud Backup file”
Please note this way only works if you had backed up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch to iCloud before you lost the wanted data. Launch iSkysoft Toolbox- iOS Data Recovery and click “Recover from iCloud Backup file”.
Step 2. Sign in iCloud
Sign in iCloud with your iCloud account information. Don’t worry about the security of your account, the software doesn’t collect your personal information at all.
Step 3. Download iCloud Backup File
After you logged into iCloud, all of your iCloud backup files will be detected and displayed in the main window. You’re supposed to choose the one you want to recover data from and click the “Download” button.
In the next new window, you’re asked to choose the file types to download. Compared with download all files, it will shorten the download time for downloading target file types. After the download, click “Next”.
Step 4. Preview and Recover Data from iCloud Backup File
After the scan process, you can see all data are displayed in categories. Next, you can choose any data to preview before performing the recovery.
