A RAW photo file format refers to a format that stores minimally processed image data from the image sensor of a digital camera. They contain non-processed data and therefore, not ready to be used with bitmap graphics editor. Hundreds of digital camera brands capture photos in different RAW formats and then saves them to the memory card. RAW photos can be damaged, lost or corrupted due to several reasons. The recovery process requires a fast, secure and confidential data recovery software that's designed with powerful data scanning and RAW photo recovery algorithms. In this article, we outline the causes of RAW photo loss, and we discuss everything on how to perform RAW photo recovery using the world’s most popular data recovery software for Mac.
i. Transfer Error: While transferring RAW photos from your camera/memory card to Mac, they can get lost due to unexpected power failure or sudden/forced system shutdown.
ii. Improper Handling of the Memory Card: When you decide to eject a memory card from your camera when it's still in use, RAW photos are likely to get lost. Taking new pictures when the memory card is full can also lead to RAW photo loss.
iii. Accidental Deletion of RAW Photos: You can accidentally delete RAW photos from your digital camera, memory card, USB flash disk, Mac-based hard drives and more while previewing them. This happens when you mistakenly select the "Delete All" option. You can also delete RAW photos by pressing the "Shift + Delete" buttons from the computer.
iv. Formatting: When you connect your device to your PC, you can get an error message that reads, "Disk needs to be formatted". If you decide to format it, you'll definitely lose the RAW photos.
v. File System Corruption: Corrupted file systems are inaccessible and results in RAW photo loss. File system corruption can occur due to several reasons including unexpected shutdown during transfer, virus attack, switching off the camera while you are transferring files and more.
